Foreplay is important. This is an inarguable fact. Massages were something I had never really regarded as foreplay before my current partner, but now that they are a more common occurrence I wanted something to make them nicer. Babeland is an online sex toy retailer that branded their own massage candles. I got three of their 1 oz Babeland body massage candles- Pashmina, Rice Flower, and Mango Vanilla. These are the size of normal tealight candles but they are encased in aluminum containers with caps so they won’t fit in tealight holders. These aren’t really intended for decoration though, so that’s not a downside.
Rice Flower- this is the first one I started with since it was the lightest scent. These were getting used on my male partner and the other two had an overt floral scent that wasn’t very ‘manly’. I lit this in our dining room/living room area which doesn’t have walls so the scent as a candle wasn’t overpowering but it did spread nicely. I actually stopped paying attention to the candle for about thirty minutes until we moved into the bedroom. In thirty minutes the entire candle was already melted. And the container was hot… Ouch. When you have hot flames, encasing it in aluminum isn’t the smartest idea. This made pouring the candle a pain for me. It wasn’t anything that actually burned me, but it was hot enough that I couldn’t pour it without wrapping a napkin around the container so my fingers weren’t in direct contact with the aluminum. Then came the pouring issue. This is a perfectly round container, there is no pour spout or anything that aids in the oil coming out nicely. When you are done pouring the oil/wax dries quickly on the outside of the container. Just an annoyance more than anything else. It also made controlling where to pour the oil more difficult. After the first pour, the wick started moving whenever I moved the candle. Definitely not a good thing. This meant towards the end of pouring had to be very careful so the wick didn’t fall out when I was pouring the last of the oil out.
So for all those complaints, the actual oil was nice. The only ingredients (in all the candles) are: Soy Wax, Shea Butter, and fragrances. Soy Wax burns at a lower temperature so it makes it safe to pour onto the skin without burning. Shea Butter is what makes the skin feel so soft after you have massaged the oil into the skin. The ‘fragrances’ is all I would worry about if you have sensitive skin that breaks out with perfumes or oils.
Mango Vanilla- This has to be my least favorite scent. It does not smell like Mango or Vanilla, both of which I regard as softer scents. This smells like a flower shop filled with old ladies. It is really strong and not very pleasant for me. In fact, I only used about a ¼ of the wax just because I really really didn’t like the scent. That is an upside of getting the smaller containers though, because from the names of the candles I would figure this would be the one I’d like the most.
Pashmina- This candle is very earthy. Vanilla with overtones of pine. When put in a room with walls this scented the entire room well, this is the only candle I used in a room with walls though I’m sure all are the same. If you don’t like the scent then you won’t want to use these in small rooms.
The higher that you drip the candle from, the lower temperature the wax will be when it hits the skin. Each candle has enough wax for one full body use. The oil rubs completely into the skin leaving it moisturized and scented for a few hours afterward. If you are looking to massage a male, like I was, then the leftover scent does have an impact on when you do this. Usually we saved these for before bed or before showers.
Babeland made an effort to design some massage candles, and it sorta worked. I think the 3 oz containers would solve the issues that I had with these. The actual candles were nice and the scents were decent but the 1 oz containers just weren’t that nice. So go get the 3 oz versions of Babeland’s massage candles.
